Pinnacle and Boulder fill different gaps in an outfit. Start by asking whether you need a fleece layer inside your existing shell or a jacket facing the wind. That is more useful than assuming both names describe interchangeable warmth.
You already own a suitable shell
Try Pinnacle as the fleece component. Owners describe comfortable layering, but shoulder reach and extra sleeve length need checking.
Your outer layer lets wind through
Investigate Boulder. A New Mexico account describes wind blocking, and Carla values hip coverage over wool or fleece.
The Pinnacle listing specifies body-mapped fleece; the Boulder listing describes a wind- and water-resistant shell with grid and higher-pile fleece zones. Those constructions support the different roles. They do not quantify which is warmer for every wearer.
For either jacket, repeat a reach with your real underlayer. Maddy’s Pinnacle shoulder restriction and Carla’s Boulder layering account concern different people and outfits. The hood-and-collar check helps compare the complete stack.
