Put the shirt or hoodie you intend to wear beside the vest before choosing one. The useful shortlist is the set that fits over that real underlayer—not every vest with an appealing insulation figure.
Eliminate the wrong role first
- Need a simple layer for camp and town? Bighorn has Nathan’s specific household-use account and a snap-front design. Keep the small evidence base in view.
- Need zipped small-item storage? Hunter Loft has owner support for deep closing pockets, but chest room and hip flare may eliminate it.
- Want warmth without more sleeve bulk during glassing or other movement? Transition has a detailed owner account for exactly that use.
These are conditional entry points, not a ranked warmth contest. The two 80g labels and Transition’s 100g wording lack equivalent measurement bases. A vest that fits over a tee may not work over a sweatshirt; the Loft–Transition comparison addresses that closer choice.
When no vest is the answer
If your arms are the part of the outfit that needs insulation, another core layer does not directly supply it. If the chest is tight but the waist already loose, buying more volume may also fail. Use the proportion guide before adding another size to the order.
