Do not replace a Hunter Climatex rain pant by matching the word Climatex alone. Kings has an older Climatex II listing and a current Climatex Rain Pant listing with different stated weights and levels of construction detail. Both describe boot-on access, but the information attached to one page does not automatically identify a garment bought years ago.
| Listing detail | Hunter Climatex II | Current Hunter Climatex Rain Pant |
|---|---|---|
| Stated garment weight | 10.5 oz | 11.7 oz |
| Weight basis | Size basis not stated | Size basis not stated |
| Leg access | Full-length leg zipper | Full-length side leg zippers |
| Waist | Elastic and draw cord | Elastic drawstring adjustment |
| Waterproof documentation | Waterproof/windproof claim; water-tight zippers listed | 10K/10K rating, Windstorm membrane and fully taped seams listed |
| Packing detail | Packs into its back pocket | Described as packable; matching pocket-stow arrangement not established here |
These entries come from the Climatex II description and current Climatex description. They are listing claims, not a side-by-side performance test. The two weights lack a matched size basis, so the numerical difference is not a measured carrying-weight advantage.
Use the order record to identify what you already own
- Find the original order name, product code and any retained garment label. A pattern name alone does not establish construction.
- Compare the zipper length, pocket arrangement and packing method described for that exact listing.
- If the identity still does not match, ask the retailer to confirm the replacement model rather than borrowing the newer page’s rating.
Try-on comments do not answer the rain question
The two captured Climatex II comments mainly describe fit. One reviewer explicitly had not used the pants yet and thought they felt flimsier than expected. That is an initial feel concern, not an observed tear or rain failure. The other says they fit well. Neither supplies evidence for a waterproofness comparison with the current model.
The current Climatex review keeps its own owner evidence separate. If your existing pair is the II, use this identity check first; then assess the replacement’s fit over layers and boots on its own terms.
The useful outcome: know which listing describes each pair before transferring a weight, membrane rating or packing feature. A familiar name is a starting point, not proof of an unchanged garment.
